Given that the citys slogan is Keep Austin Weird, it should come as no surprise that one of its most popular Austin attractions is the Cathedral of Junk.
And yes, this is exactly what it sounds like a whimsical homage to used home goods, furniture, and various types of junk that somehow manage to capture the very essence of the city. Theres quite a lot to take in at the Cathedral of Junk so you may want to set aside a couple of hours to wade through everything.
The piles of junk have been artfully arranged to create towers, stairways, and secret rooms. If youre lucky enough, you might just stumble across the coveted Throne Room filled with wind chimes.

This list is in full support of social distancing, mask-wearing, and staying in if youre not feeling well. As long as youve checked all three of those things, here are some fun things to do in Austin during quarantine! Please be extra careful to stay in if youre not feeling well, wear a mask when youre around the humans, and keep a 6-foot distance from other people. Just a gentle reminder. If youre like me and eating is one of your favorite activities, Ive found that outdoor patios are a safe way to enjoy Austin restaurants. Admire The Views From Mount Bonnell

If youre looking for outdoor things to do in Austin, you certainly cant go wrong with a trip to the world-famous Mount Bonnell! Often hailed as the citys oldest tourist attraction, this site stands at 785 feet and offers incredible vistas of the downtown area.
Youll need to climb around a hundred stairs to reach the summit, but rest assured that its quite an easy walk thats punctuated by gorgeous sights. Theres even a quaint rest area under a pavilion at the top where you can catch your breath or simply kick back and watch the sun sink over the city skyline.

Shop Till You Drop On South Congress Avenue
As far as shopping venues in Austin go, South Congress Avenue is a definite must-do for tourists. Colloquially referred to as SoCo, this lively neighborhood lies close to Lady Bird Lake and easily ranks among the citys most eclectic shopping strips.
Browse through a vast array of shops offering vintage products, accessories, makeup, high-street clothing, and even souvenirs before fueling up at one of the many food trucks parked on both sides of the strip.
Of course, it goes without saying that this is one of the most touristy places in Austin so it can get pretty packed during the weekend! At night, the strip bursts into life as shopping morphs into clubbing and karaoke.

There are several different ways to get into the Greenbelt. My favorite entry point is past Loop 360 off of the Capitol of Texas highway. Hike one hour in and youll be greeted with waterfalls a relief from our humid Texas summers. Watch out for bikers as youre walking on the path . I like walking on the Butler Hike-and-Bike trail boardwalk!
Bar Hopping And Night Life On Historic Rainey Street
One of my personal favorites is having a great time on Rainey Street. On your birthday, this is a great place to spend an afternoon celebrating by bar hopping on this bustling buzzing street with craftsman style houses turned into bars. Not only is Rainey a very cool and hip site to see, but they offer so many great options. Check out Lustre Pearl, Container Bar, a bar made entirely from shipping containers , and have delicious Detroit style pizza at Via 313. Rainey has dozens of restaurants, bars, and dance clubs . A local favorite spot for any occasion.
