Dolly Parton Sings ‘happy Birthday’ To Loretta Lynn Who Turned 90
Country stars also sent Lynn loving messages for her milestone birthday.
Loretta Lynn celebrated her 90th birthday on Thursday, and she received a special shout-out from country stars like Maren Morris and Carrie Underwood — but it was Dolly Parton who stole the show.
In a video message posted to the “Coal Miner’s Daughter” singer’s socials, folks like Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood and Tim McGraw and Faith Hill took turns celebrating Lynn’s milestone birthday and sharing how much she means to them.

The cards feature Southern Living‘s 2020 Southerner of the Year and her backup singers performing a personalized birthday-themed parody of her hit single 9 to 5.
“Cuz it’s birthday time, what a day for celebrating, Parton sings. There’ll be songs and gifts and some happy congregating. This is birthday time, with your friends and new relations. It’s a time for joy and happy celebrations!
“Celebrating who you are and why you are special is something I have always encouraged and have known is important for my own identity,” Parton said in a news release. “God made us all unique in our own ways, and I love the fact that I was able to offer something special for everyone. In a time like now, when we do not get the chance to share special moments like birthdays with each other in-person, I am so happy to know my ‘Birthday Time’ SmashUp ecard is now available to share with those you love.”
Just select the name of the lucky birthday boy or girl from a list of 1,200 different monikers, and Dolly will include their name in the song and spelled out in lights onstage next to her.

Country music’s biggest stars turned out to wish pioneering songstress Loretta Lynn a happy 90th birthday today.
Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, Alan Jackson, Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, Maren Morris, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Carole King, Martina McBride, and Tanya Tucker, were amongst the famous faces who participated in a video tribute to the most awarded female country artist of all-time.
Towards the end of the video, Parton sings a special rendition of “Happy Birthday,” adding a new line, “We will always love you,” just for Lynn.
“To us, you’re always timeless and ageless and always will be,” McGraw told Lynn.
“I know you know what you mean to so many of us, so happy birthday,” Underwood said. “Enjoy it, celebrate and I hope I see you soon.”

Lynn was the second of eight children born to coal miner Melvin “Ted” Webb and his wife, Clara “Clary” Marie, in 1932. She was born and raised in rural eastern Kentucky.
The “Coal Miner’s Daughter” singer has been inducted into more music Halls of Fame than any female recording artist. The four-time-Grammy-winner became the first woman to be named the Country Music Association’s Entertainer of the Year in 1972 and has sold more than 45 million records worldwide.

There was no doubt. When I told her that, she said, Youre the craziest thing Ive ever been around. You scare me, youre so crazy.
Foster, as it turns out, was anything but crazy, as his track record with Parton, as well as Roy Orbison, Kris Kristofferson and many others would prove. When he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in October 2016, Parton performedDumb Blonde, her first Top Thirty country hit while a Monument artist, in his honor.
In 1982, with Monument struggling to stay afloat, Willie Nelson helped organize a special recording event which saw him join former label mates Parton and Kristofferson, as well as Brenda Lee to record material individually and collectively on a double-album called The Winning Hand. Consisting of both original Monument recordings and newly cut material , the album also featured liner notes by Johnny Cash. When tickets for a December 1984 network TV taping in Nashville featuring all five superstars were made available to the public, they were snapped up in just 26 minutes.

American country singer-songwriter Dolly Parton has composed over 5,000 songs throughout her career. The total number of individual song titles she has recorded and released is 956, totaling over 1,100 individual recordings when studio recordings, remixes, and live tracks are combined.
Following her departure from Wagoner’s show, Parton branched out into pop music with the 1977 single “Here You Come Again“, which hit number one on the country chart and number three on the Billboard Hot 100, helping to produce a string of crossover hits in the late 1970s and early 1980s, including “Two Doors Down“, “Heartbreaker“, “You’re the Only One“, “9 to 5” and “But You Know I Love You“.

Dolly appeared as herself in the big screen adaptation of the classic television series, The Beverly Hillbillies. The movie starred Jim Varney as the family patriarch Jed Clampett who strikes oil and decides to move to Beverly Hills. Dolly appears in the film to sing Happy Birthday to the Jed Clampett character. The movie is also a reunion of sorts as it reunites Dolly, Lily Tomlin and Dabney Coleman.

Shes Not The Only Singer In The Family
Music played a large part in Dolly Partons upbringing. The family lived in a fairly religious part of the county, the Greenbrier Valley, and singing in church was her earliest public appearance. Dolly began performing at the age of six. She was playing a homemade guitar at age 7 and played her first real guitar at the age of 8. Her mother, Avie Lee Parton, encouraged her children to sing. Dollys sisters Stella, Cassie, and Frieda also singers, as is her brother Randy. Her brother Floyd was a singer as well before he passed away in 2018.
Did you know you can still visit her childhood home? Well, sort of Born in Locust Ridge, TN in 1946, Dolly Parton was the fourth of 12 children. The family didnt have money. In fact, one rumor says that her parents paid the doctor who delivered her with a bag of cornmeal. The family lived in the original version of the Dollywood recreation on Locust Ridge, which is close to the Greenbrier Valley and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park her ancestors one time called home. The area her family lived in the park is now a part of the Old Settlers Trail on Birds Creek. Since so many members of the Parton family lived on Birds Creek, it was known locally as Parton Town.
The one-room cabin in which Dolly Parton was born is no longer accessible to the public, but you can plan a visit to see the replica of the 2-room cabin grew up in. Dolly recreated her 2-room cabin inside her theme park at Dollywood.
Loretta Lynn Has Been A Country Music Icon For More Than 60 Years
Of the country stars around today, Lynn is inarguably one of the originals. She made her first appearance on the Grand Ole Opry in 1960. And it wasnt long before she was supported by her friend and fellow girl singer,Patsy Cline.
Of course, that friendship ended too soon when Cline died in a horrific plane crash in 1963. But both stars left their lasting mark on country music, both together and individually. And they led the way for other women in the genre. Not only did they encourage female artists in their careers, but they set an example of looking out for each other as a community along the way, especially women.

There are more tributes to Lynn, just not purely entertaining ones. The Smithsonian National Museum of American Historyis honoring Lynn with an exhibit.
Lynn is donating some of her memorabilia, including her handwritten notes she took for Fist City. Theres also a handmade dress and a first edition of her autobiography Coal Miners Daughter.
Sony Music Entertainment is dedicating a magnolia in Lynns name at Nashvilles Cheekwood Estate and Gardens.

Dolly Wrote Three Songs For The Joyful Noise Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Including A Love Song From Here To The Moon And Back
Dollys starring role in the movie Joyful Noise led to her writing three original songs for the soundtrack to the Warner Brothers movie .
Her three songs were the newest in a list of over 3,000 songs published by Dolly who wrote her first song at the age of five. Dolly once said,
Ever since I was a little bitty kid, I could just rhyme everything. Every story was a rhyme. It was always fun and it just kind of carried on over the years. I love to write. Thats my favorite thing of all. To me, Id rather write than to sing. My biggest thrill is to write songs then go in the studio and hear them back.
The movie features Dolly and Queen Latifah as competing choir members who end up working together to help their church choir win a national choral competition. The soundtrack has sold well over 100,000 copies since its release.
The song From Here to the Moon and Back was meaningful as Dolly said her husband, Carl Dean was her muse. I needed to write a beautiful love song. I picked my husband, who I love, and I thought, Well, Ill write some beautiful song about him. It was about my husband in the movie, played by Kris Kristofferson, so I thought in order to make it really real and really touching, I would write it about my real, true emotions about someone I really do love and have loved for more than half of my life.
Not Enough is about coming together with others to solve problems when things are tough which is the common thread of the film itself.
