Regina King posted a moving tribute to her late son to celebrate his birthday on Thursday, nearly one year after his death.
King, 52, of an orange lantern she’d lit in honor of Ian Alexander Jr., calling January 19th “Ian’s Worthday.”
“I see you in everything,” King wrote in a caption of the video.
Alexander, who would have turned 27 on Thursday, died by suicide on January 21, 2022.
“As we still process his physical absence, we celebrate his presence,” King added. “We are all in different places on the planet… so is Ian. His spirit is the thread that connects us.”
King wrote that the orange color of the lantern was significant because it was Ian’s favorite color.

The “Watchmen” star first confirmed news of Alexander’s deathto People, telling the outlet: “Our family is devastated at the deepest level by the loss of Ian.”
“He is such a bright light who cared so deeply about the happiness of others,” King’s statement to People at the time read. “Our family asks for respectful consideration during this private time. Thank you.”
As Insider’s Lauren Edmonds previously reported, King shared Ian Alexander Jr. with her former husband, record producer Ian Alexander Sr. King and Alexander Sr. were married for almost a decade and divorced in 2007, according to People.
