When Is The Virgin Mary’s Birthday

Celebrate Our Lady Of Guadalupe Day

Warnings and Prophetic Messages from the Blessed Mother | ANC

Public celebrations, or fiestas, are held in honor of Mary, the Virgin of Guadalupe, on December 12. Catholics from across Mexico and other countries pay pilgrimage to see an image of Mary , believed to be authentic, in the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City. Children are dressed in traditional costumes and are blessed in churches. Thousands of people come to church to pray.

After The Ascension Of Jesus

In Acts 1:26, especially v. 14, Mary is the only one other than the eleven apostles to be mentioned by name who abode in the upper room, when they returned from Mount Olivet. From this time, she disappears from the biblical accounts, although it is held by Catholics that she is again portrayed as the heavenly woman of Revelation.

Her death is not recorded in the scriptures, but Catholic and Orthodox tradition and doctrine have her assumed into Heaven. Belief in the corporeal assumption of Mary is a dogma of the Catholic Church, in the Latin and Eastern Catholic Churches alike, and is believed as well by the Eastern Orthodox Church, the Coptic Orthodox Church, and parts of the Anglican Communion and Continuing Anglican movement.

How Did God Send His Message To Mary

God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth with a message for Mary, who was promised in marriage to Joseph. The angel told Mary that she would have a son, whom she was to name Jesus. The angel said, He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High God. Mary asked how this could be as she was a virgin.

About Our Lady Of Guadalupe Day

It is believed that a man named Juan Diego encountered the Virgin Mary twice in Mexico City, on December 9 and December 12 in 1531. According to legend, Mary told Juan to ask the bishop to build a church on Tepeyac Hill. However, the bishop needed proof of Juans encounter and asked for a miracle. Juan returned to the hill to see roses in a spot where there were previously cacti. When Juan Diego returned, he showed the roses to the archbishop and also revealed an image on his cloak of the Lady of Guadalupe. The bishop was convinced of the miracle and built a church in honor of the event.

Happy Birthday Mother Mary

The Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary refers to the birthday of Mother Mary. We celebrate this feast on September 8, nine months after the feast of the Immaculate Conception. This feast has been celebrated for centuries and is said to have its origins in the fifth century.

According to the Protoevangelium of James, an apocryphal writing from the late second century, Anne and Joachim are infertile, but pray for a child. God answers their prayer and they receive the promise of a child that will advance Gods plan of salvation for the world. This child is Mary, who would be the Mother of the Savior of the world, Jesus Christ.

We celebrate only three birthdays during the Church year, the birth of Jesus, the birth of Mary and the birth of John the Baptist.

Happy Birthday Mother Mary. We love you. Please pray for us.

The photo showed the tarpaulin with the greeting: The Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

It also has a message printed in smaller font that reads: Ipagdasal po natin ang patuloy na pag-asenso ng bawat pamilyang Malabonian.

However, images of the Blessed Virgin Mary, whose birthday is being celebrated only became the backdrop of the material.

Instead, larger photos and names of government officials were given the spotlight on the tarpaulin.

These officials are:

  • Malabon Congresswoman Jaye Lacson-Noel

Feasts And Related Fasting Period

Orthodox Christians fast fifteen days prior to the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, including abstinence from sexual relations. Fasting in the Orthodox tradition refers to not consuming a meal until evening.

The Assumption is important to many Christians, especially Catholics and Orthodox, as well as many Lutherans and Anglicans, as the Virgin Mary’s heavenly birthday . Belief about her acceptance into the glory of Heaven is seen by some Christians as the symbol of the promise made by Jesus to all enduring Christians that they too will be received into paradise. The Assumption of Mary is symbolised in the Fleur-de-lys Madonna.

The present Italian name of the holiday, Ferragosto, may derive from the Latin name, Feriae Augusti , since the month of August took its name from the emperor. The Solemnity of the Assumption on 15 August was celebrated in the Eastern Church from the 6th Century. The Catholic Church adopted this date as a Holy Day of Obligation to commemorate the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a reference to the belief in a real, physical elevation of her sinless soul and incorrupt body into Heaven.

Birth Of Mary: September 8

Reverend Matthew R. Mauriello

The feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is celebrated each year on the eighth of September. Usually it is the custom of the church to celebrate the feast day of a saint on the date of their death as this is truly their “die natalis”, the day remembered as their birth into everlasting happiness. Mary, however, entered this world sinless through the privilege of the Immaculate Conception and is the firstborn of the redeemed. Her nativity is a cause for great joy as it is considered the” dawn of our salvation” as Pope Paul VI wrote in the document, in 1972.

There is no reference in the Sacred Scriptures to the birth of Mary. That which is known about Mary’s nativity is found in the Apocrypha, principally the Protoevangelium of James which has been dated by historians prior to 200 AD. This book gives us a detailed account of the birth of Mary which begins in the fifth chapter and even gives a detailed conversation between Mary’s mother, St. Anne and the midwife.

It is generally believed that the date of September 8 was chosen to celebrate the Nativity of Mary since the civil year began in Constantinople on September 1. Scholars believe that this date was chosen since it was symbolic that the “beginning” of the work of salvation should be commemorated near to the beginning of the new year. The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary was later fixed at December 8, nine months prior.

Later Christian Writings And Traditions

According to the apocryphalGospel of James, Mary was the daughter of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne. Before Mary’s conception, Anne had been barren and was far advanced in years. Mary was given to service as a consecrated virgin in the Temple in Jerusalem when she was three years old, much as Hannah had taken Samuel to the Tabernacle as recorded in the Old Testament. The idea that she was allowed in the Holy of Holies is a patent impossibility, as this likely would have constituted blasphemy for Ancient Jews.

While unproven, some apocryphal accounts state that at the time of her betrothal to Joseph, Mary was 12â14 years old. According to ancient Jewish custom, Mary could have been betrothed at about 12.Hyppolitus of Thebes says that Mary lived for 11 years after the death of her son Jesus, dying in 41 AD.

The earliest extant biographical writing on Mary is Life of the Virgin attributed to the 7th century saint Maximus the Confessor, which portrays her as a key element of the early Christian Church after the death of Jesus.

The Nativity Of The Blessed Virgin Maryfeast Day: Sep 08

Birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary– September 8, 2020

The circumstances of the Virgin Mary’s infancy and early life are not directly recorded in the Bible, but other documents and traditions describing the circumstances of her birth are cited by some of the earliest Christian writers from the first centuries of the Church.

These accounts, although not considered authoritative in the same manner as the Bible, outline some of the Church’s traditional beliefs about the birth of Mary.

The Protoevangelium of James, which was probably put into its final written form in the early second century, describes Mary’s father Joachim as a wealthy member of one of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Joachim was deeply grieved, along with his wife Anne, by their childlessness. He called to mind Abraham, the early Christian writing says, that in the last day God gave him a son Isaac.

Joachim and Anne began to devote themselves extensively and rigorously to prayer and fasting, initially wondering whether their inability to conceive a child might signify God’s displeasure with them.

As it turned out, however, the couple were to be blessed even more abundantly than Abraham and Sarah, as an angel revealed to Anne when he appeared to her and prophesied that all generations would honor their future child: The Lord has heard your prayer, and you shall conceive, and shall bring forth, and your seed shall be spoken of in all the world.

Do We Know Anything About The Blessed Virgin Marys Infancy

We do not know much about how Mary grew as a child. She may be like a typical Jewish religious girl. But the writings note that Anne made a sanctuary in the infants room and allowed nothing common or unclean on account of the special holiness of the child. The document records that when Mary was one year old, Joachim made a great feast and invited the priests, the scribes and the elders and all the people of Israel.

The Relevance Of Our Blessed Virgin Marys Birthday In Our Faith Journey

For us Catholics, there are more reasons to celebrate during the BER months as some of the major holy days of obligations are being celebrated, two of which are the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th and the Solemnity of the Nativity of our dear Lord Jesus Christ on December 25th. However, even before the said liturgical celebrations, something special and important in our salvation history is also being remembered and that is the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary which is today, the 8th of September.

It is surprising that some of us may not be fully aware of the Blessed Mothers birthday much more about her being conceived without original sin. For those who have not had a chance to seize the opportunity of studying the catholic doctrine, original sin as explained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church is the first personal sin of Adam and Eve which was transmitted to their offspring, passed down from generation to generation. In other words, our Catholic faith teaches us that we have inherited Adam and Eves first sin, and that only when we are baptized can the said original sin be wiped out from us. The said belief, particularly the transmission of original sin remains a mystery, similar to the dogma of the Immaculate Conception.
