  • When Is The Best Time For A Toddler Birthday Party

I have always found that the best time for toddler parties is the morning.

Everyone is fresh and there is less risk of those dreaded late-afternoon meltdowns. Both my children napped from 1-4pm

Because of our long afternoon naps, the traditional 2-4pm parties never worked for us and any later just gets difficult with early dinners and Bath times.

From polling my mom friends, we have found that a 10am-12pm seems ideal for the 2 and 3 year old age range.

    Red Light Green Light

In this classic party game for kids, red light means freeze and green light means go. The kids just have to follow the simple rule and perform a particular activity when the words green light or red light is mentioned. The rules for the activities, trigger words, and punishments can be customized. You can mix it up with some random words tossed in to test their agile thinking.

Every child wants to have fun at their birthday and toddlers are no exception. There are in fact lots of fun and engaging games you can plan that will get their curious minds ticking and their adorable giggles erupting. As toddlers do not always follow the rules you set or understand the concept of winning its a good idea to choose games and rules that keep them all having fun with little rewards for everyone. Remember, they can be very small gifts and the kids will be excited regardless.

How Do I Entertain My Toddler At A Party

The best way to keep toddlers entertained at a party is to have games and activities pre-prepared.

But here is the thing. KEEP IT SIMPLE!

If you try and get too coordinated or fancy with the activities then you could run into trouble.

Toddlers have a short attention span, so staying on task in a game or adhering to the rules might be tricky.

The activities that are planned therefore need to be able to proceed even if some toddlers decide to stop playing mid game.

Its also a great idea to simply have an activity station set up that the toddlers can take themselves off to.

This can be as simple as having some coloring pages or some simple fun craft.

And whilst you will have organised activities planned, it is also a good idea to have some loose play items available. This could be a ball pit, or some loose toys.

This allows the toddlers to interact with something whilst they are waiting for the planned activities to start.

    39. Balloon Dare: Pre-prepare a collection of inflated balloons, each with a small piece of paper with a dare written on it. Players take turns to choose a balloon, pop it and complete the dare. Some dare suggestions: Sing Im a Little Teapot with all the actions, bite into a lemon slice, peel a banana with your feet, do a crab walk across the room, cartwheel 3 times, try not to laugh for one whole minute , sing Humpty Dumpty with a mouth full of marshmallows, act out a scene from your favourite movie.

    40. In or Out?: Divide party guests into teams of four or five. Each team will need a large hula hoop. All team members stand inside the hoop, holding the hoop at waist level without using their hands. On Go the teams must work out how to all team members outside of the hoop without it touching the ground, and without using their hands. Should the hoop touch the ground, the team must start again from the starting position. First team to successfully complete the challenge are the winners.

How Long Should A Toddler Birthday Party Last

The first thing to do when planning out your party is the schedule.

A toddler birthday party only really needs to last for 2 hours max. Any longer and you will start encroaching on nap-time and end up with some cranky tots!

Two hours gives you plenty of time for games, snacks, cake and presents if you want to open them at the party.

Most parents know that a toddler party isnt really the occasion to arrive fashionably late so you should prepare to start more or less on time.

Birthday Party Games For Toddlers ~ 2 And 3 Year Old Party Games And Activitiesfreeze Dance

31 Days of Indoor Activities for Toddlers

Put the music on and let the children get their jig on, but when the music stops all the children must freeze in place until the music starts again. Some versions play that any player that moves must sit out. I would not suggest this for a toddler party.

If you want to give incentives for freezing I would suggest giving a sticker for the person that is most frozen every round. Just make sure you make sure that every child who is at least trying gets a sticker before the game ends.

    Toddler Race Car Party

Do your toddler love cars? Then throw them a race car party! You can make your own race cars out of cardboard boxes or buy them online or at a local store. Then set up a small race track in your backyard with some masking tape or cones.

The kids can race their cars down the track and play games like Hot Potato and Pin the Tail on the Car.

For refreshments, you can serve car fuel like fruit punch or soda and car snacks like pretzels or popcorn.

Pick What Your Child Loves And Stick To It

Be it a favorite book, show or activity, all 2-year-olds have their thing use it.

Choose a theme based on whatever captures your childs imagination most, says Stringfellow. Then, carry that theme throughout the party from the invitations to the favors to, of course, the cake.

    The Chocolate Eating Game

This game is great for kids from six years old upwards. You will need a large bar of chocolate, a knife and fork, a scarf, hat and gloves. Oversized hats and gloves work super well for extra laughs.

Get the children to sit around a plate with the large bar of chocolate on it. Each child takes their turn to roll a die until someone rolls a six.

The child who rolls a six then has to put on the hat, scarf and gloves and start to cut and eat the chocolate using the knife and fork.

The other children continue rolling the die until another six is rolled. At that point, the child-eating the chocolate must stop eating.

Now its the turn of the new six roller to don the hat, scarf and gloves and start eating.

The game ends when the whole bar of chocolate has been eaten. And thats when the real fun starts for the party host as the sugar rush hits!!!!!

    Toddler Friendly Activity Stations

5 Birthday Party Games For Kids

Even with large-motor and open-ended activities, its always good to have at one or two activity stations.

While some toddlers wont use them at all, others will enjoy having a short break from the mayhem. And shy kids often appreciate having a place they can go to quietly play as they warm up to the party.

Activity stations dont have to be complicated, either.

What Do You Do At A Toddlers Birthday Party

    Penny Pitch

Toddlers birthday parties are similar to big kid parties, but are different in a few ways:

    1. They should be shorter. 1.5-2 hours should be enough time to have fun, but also keeps naps in mind for the party goers and host two year old.

    2. Parents will stay. Most toddler parties also include the parents. While you dont have to entertain the adults, you do need to feed them.

When it comes to party activities, toddlers are pretty amused with just playing with toys and eating cake at a party. However, once the novelty of the toys wears off you will need to entertain your group of two and three year olds somehow.

Simplicity and fast set-up are key. Toddlers have very short attention spans so you will lose them if you ask them to wait while you set up your games or if the games arent easy enough for them to understand the rules.

Dont play competitive games. Keep everyone happy by playing group games where everyone has fun or wins.

Have enough for everyone. Whether you set up a craft or play a game with prizes ensure you have enough for all the toddlers who are notorious for not sharing well. Buy extra crayons, etc.

Glitter and wings and all pretty things. The perfect ingredients for a fairy garden party. Decorate with real flowers and mason jars, as well as let each child create their own glass garden using sticks, glitter, ribbons, and flowers, everyone can also make their own wands. You can provide the fairy wings.

Rock painting, bubbles, and a tea party will create a perfect magical setting. Make sure every child leaves with their own jar of pixie dust which they can create with their own choice of glitter.

They can also with sprinkles and glitter. Cookies cutters in the shape of butterflies, flowers will work both for the cookies and for some play dough fun the kids can have too.

Y Games Where Everyone Wins A Prize

I am already, kind of, against competitive games at birthday parties. They are a place to have fun and not win and lose. Especially so, at toddler parties. For all my kids birthday parties up to the ages 5, I have included games where every child wins. Same was the case with our Peppa Pig birthday party games.

    Where To Hold The Party

Toddler Birthday Party Ideas | 4 Bs Of Successful Party Planing For Kids

Finding a party place to host the celebration can be more expensive, but it does save on a lot of the preparation time and anxiety for you. Most party places provide the food and entertainment. Some even include the desserts, and you will get people to keep the children occupied.

For a budget-friendly option, check local parks. Usually, you can rent a park pavilion for a nominal fee, and it comes with a built-in playground. If you want to hold the party at home and have the space, go for it. Outside is best because you dont want a group of three-year-olds running through the house. For weather worries, rent a tent ahead of time so you wont stress.

What Are The Kids Actually Going To Do At Your Party

Coming up with party games for toddlers is possibly the hardest part of hosting an at-home party for young children.

Sure, its easier to come up with themes and fun decorations for little kids parties. After all, the younger they are, the more influence you have on those decisions.

But the attention spans of 2 to 4 year olds are extremely short, and kids in that age range arent quite ready for most structured party games.

Furthermore, 2 to 4 year-olds are usually accompanied by their parents. Were all so busy these days, that your childs birthday party is a fantastic time to get to know the parents in your childs preschool class.

But, if you are acting as party director for a dozen children during the entire party, you wont have time to do that.
