Under The Sea Animal Games

DIY/fishes theme/sea life/kids birthday party decorations/coral life

For the games I had made a pin the tail on the fishy by just printing out a poster size print from my computer. Then I cut and pasted on the computer to make the little tails.

The last Under the Sea themed game was pop the bubble. I put numbers into each blue balloon and blew them up. Then made one straight line with all the kids lined across.

They had to make it to the other line and pop the balloon. Then I called a number and that kid who had that number won.

We had an Under the Sea piñata.

Now for my favorite the mermaid cake! It was very simple I assembled it and frosted it.

For Under the Sea goodie bags I had bought fishy stuff online. I wanted to give little goldfish to each kid but had trouble finding little bowls for them. So I did not do it but wish I could have. I thought that would be a cute thing. They each got their little fishy faces to take home and that was it.

Ocean Theme Party Game

Chris and I host a number of very themed, decorated and fun parties every year . So, a well known fact for those guests who have attended a number of our parties know there is always a game with a boozy prize to be won. And in Jane’s case her party was no exception.

I created a list of ocean themed questions to ask the guests and they had to write down what they thought the most common answer to those questions was. It’s basically a spin off family feud but there aren’t any teams. I asked things like “What’s something in the ocean that starts with the letter S?” To which everyone writes down their answer and we move on through the rest of the questions.

The answers are all based on the most common answer from a pool of 100 people. After we get through the 8 to 10 questions everyone’s papers are collected and the winner is announced. In this case the winner was just shy of a tie between our neighbor and an 11 year old girl. So our neighbor received the prize of a bottle of wine and the girl received a few packs of fun dip.

This game is great because you can play it with all ages and have various prizes and themes. One thing we like to do is mention a few of the silliest or obscure answers we received, often times that person will receive a consolation prize.

And a big BIG thank you to Shana Either from Life as Wife and Mom for helping with set up and taking all these gorgeous photos.

Ocean Party Decoration Ideas

For the table décor, you can either find sea-themed plates and napkins or just go for a simple beach color theme. We went for a colorful theme with large ocean blue plates for the food, small yellow plates for the cake, and green napkins. We set these out on a white tablecloth and used brightly colored sand buckets and other sand toys as food containers. Brightly colored balloons also decked out the party area.

Ocean Party Games And Goodie Bags Ideas

To keep the kids entertained at the birthday party, we came up with a fun game to play by my mom’s swimming pool. If you don’t have access to a swimming pool, a plastic pool filled with water is a great substitute for this game. We also used this game as a way to let the kids fill up their own goodie bags. Below is a list of items you will need and directions to creating this fun fishing game for the kids.

What you will need:

  • Goodie bags

Game set up and how to play:

  • Cut fish and other sea life shapes out of foam mats using a pair of sharp scissors. We used colorful mats to create different kinds of fish, whales, sharks, and starfish.
  • Write a number on the back of the fish or have a point system in place for each kind of fish caught to win prizes.
  • Hand out fishing nets and allow kids to fish for a certain amount of time. We let three kids fish at a time and set a time limit of one minute to catch as many fish as possible.
  • At the end of one minute, count up the number of points and let the kids choose out of the basket of prizes to fill up their goodie bags. Our basket of prizes included sea life water squirters, small water guns, ocean gummies, stickers, tattoos, pencils, and an assortment of candy.

  • Mix and bake cake mix according to the instructions on the package in a 13×9 baking pan.
  • Once completely cooled, carefully remove from baking pan onto a serving platter or piece of cardboard covered with wax paper.
  • Using a knife, cut off the four corners of the cake. To help you decide how much to cut, make a 9 inch diameter circle out of paper and set on top of cake.
  • Once the corners are cut, you will see the body of the fish. Decide which part is going to be the head and which part is going to be the tail.
  • Arrange one of the corners on the top to act as a fin, another one on the bottom of the cake for the second fin, and a third one to be the tail. Keep in mind that fishes come in all shapes and sizes so play around with the shape of your fish if you desire to use all four corners on your cake.
  • To attach the fins and tail to your fish shaped cake, add a layer of icing between the detached pieces and the body of the cake. Finish icing the rest of the cake. For our colorful fish, we used blue icing for the body, green for the head, and yellow for the fins and tail.
  • For additional decoration, we used a Whopper for the eye of the fish, wrote happy birthday on the body, and added some bubbles made from icing above the head. Other great ideas for candy accents are to use M& M’s for the scales of the fish or a piece of red licorice for the mouth.
