The Greenburgh Nature Center: Why We Think Its Worth The Visit

The Greenburgh Nature Center is equivalent to being a nature wonderland, especially for kids. It is located 40 minutes away from the North of New York City. It is a 33-acre woodland preserve that also features trails, ponds, gardens, and outdoor animal exhibits. It also has an indoor show of a live animal museum, a greenhouse, and the primary focus being nature and the environment. The center also hosts birthday parties and other events that are nature-themed and environmentally friendly.

The center is a great place to get an experience that will make you see nature differently. It also offers a lot of fun activities for kids. You can take a trip here with your family and sit back while your kids get familiar with nature. The indoor animal museum is also a kind of petting zoo. The animal handlers will take out any animal of your choice and allow you to get a closer look at it or even pet it. Animals like snakes, an alligator, hedgehogs, turtles, ferrets, lizards, e.t.c. are available at the center.

Another way through which the Greenburgh Nature Center keeps kids busy is through storytime and overnight camps where they discuss everything nature and eco-friendly means to keep the world healthy. Summer has finally arrived, which means you now have more time to spend with your son or daughter. You don’t have to go far to share fun experiences with your kids. There are lots of places to bring your kids to keep them busy and happy. Here are a few of our favorites within a reasonable distance from Scarsdale:

Bounce U: You have arrived at the shrine of your tot’s inner wild child. Bounce U is the capital of bouncy castles. There may be others, but they don’t compare. We first discovered this gem at the invite of a friend’s 3-year-old’s birthday party. Our 2-year-old was a little apprehensive at first twenty-foot high bouncy castles can intimidate me too but it didn’t take long for the boys to get in the game. After an hour of play there was pizza and cake, but try getting a toddler to believe there’s something better behind door #2 when paradise is right in front of them.

The best part: you can go back. Bounce U often has open-play schedules to fill in the gaps between reserved parties. For $10 or so you can send your toddler back into the inflated world they will learn to love.

New Work: Greenburgh Nature Center Celebrates 40 Years Of Keeping Westchester Wild

My first memory of Greenburgh Nature Center was at a birthday party as a child. A friendly volunteer lead our troop of kindergarteners around the animal museum, taking snakes and lizards out of their cages as we squealed ewwww! in delighted disgust. We made our way into the small mammal room, where we were given the opportunity to pet a variety of fuzzy critters.

My downstairs neighbor at the time had a pet ferret, so disenchanted by their mischievous charm, I made my way over to one of the chinchillas. I was hooked. The following months I was chinchilla-crazy begging my mom to take us back on Saturday afternoons so I could revel in their pillowy softness. GNC became a favorite weekend retreat until we moved up to the sticks in Northwestern Connecticut, and nature lived right in my backyard.

When GNC contacted us about a rebranding project, the excitement for a place I loved as a child returned. The first part of the project was creating a tagline and logo to celebrate their 40th Anniversary. We decided on a fun and playful approach to reflect the spirit of the nature center.

How To Sign Up

To request a nature birthday party, please fill out and submit our Program Request Form. Use the Custom Programs column at the far right of the page. The form can be mailed, dropped off at the Nature Center, or scanned/photographed and emailed to contact marshypoint.org .

You may call ahead of time to see if your intended date is available, but staff cannot schedule parties until the program request form is received. Dates fill up quickly, and programs are booked according to the time forms are received please turn your form in as soon as possible. Again, we cannot take reservations without the form being submitted. Weekend staff cannot take/make reservations please submit your form Monday-Friday, 9am 5pm.

A representative from Marshy Point will contact you to tell you if your date are available, and if so, what the next steps are.
