Molecule Rice Krispie Treats
I got this fantastic idea from a photo by Happy Folks Studio.
You can actually make rice krispie treats any color you want. When youre stirring together your rice krispie cereal into melted marshmallow and butter, add in several drops of whatever color food coloring you desire. Neon food coloring should give you the bright colors!
To make the molecule balls, wait until the mixture is cool enough to touch and grab a small handful. Roll it into a ball and store it in a Tupperware container until youre ready to put them on display. *Warning: youre going to get sticky!* You can attach them together like the folks did in our inspiration photo, but make sure you use sticks sturdy enough. Toothpicks dont work very well.

A Laboratory Science Birthday Party
Curious and inquisitive by nature, my son Landon wanted a laboratory science-themed birthday party for his 8th birthday complete with experiments and laboratory equipment. Being a science lover myself, and also the owner of Banner Events, I knew I wanted to put a fun spin on this exciting party theme!

Mentos And Diet Coke Explosion
The classic Mentos® and Diet Coke® Explosion is the perfect way to end your party. Neither kids nor adults can resist the excitement of watching a soda geyser shoot up into the air! All you have to do is release a sleeve of Mentos® into a 2 liter bottle of Diet Coke®. The key is to accurately and quickly release the Mentos® into the bottle. Older children can do this themselves, but otherwise an adult should do it. Make sure everyone is standing back and wearing safety glasses. Be sure to do this outdoors!

Build A Toothpick Tower
Kids of all ages love to see how tall a tower they can build. This classic STEM activity is usually done with marshmallows, but chunks of apples provide more structure . UCLAs Society of Women Engineers has excellent advice . The best thing about this activity is that it takes so little preparation, and it allows your young scientists an open-ended exploration. Talk about variables! Put out a bowl of apple cubes, some toothpicks, paper plates to build on, and you are all set! To add more color, try different varieties of apples, or include some carrot slices.

Lego Roof Materials Investigation
If your house is anything like mine, you probably have a lot of LEGO bricks lying around. You know all those LEGO sets that have been assembled and disassembled and are now sitting in a huge box? This is the perfect engineering activity to put them to use! Kids can build LEGO houses and then build roofs using materials from outside . They can use a water sprayer or a spray bottle with tinted blue water to test their structures. I like this activity because it encourages critical thinking, can be done independently or in a group, and most importantly, because its a lot of fun.

Cupcakes With Gobstopper Molecules
In lieu of a cake wed have to cut into, I made more than enough cupcakes to cover the cake table.
My go-to cupcake recipe is this delicious vanilla vegan cake from The Cake Merchant which is what I used for the party. Then when I went to ice them, I made sure to use neon food coloring instead of the regular kind. Then I just threw some colorful gobstoppers on top!
Yeah, yeah, Im not a professional cake decorator. In hindsight, I wont add any soy milk to the icing recipe it melted too easy. But they sure were fun to make!

How To Throw A Science
Most kids find the idea of science thrilling. It conjures up images of potions, explosions, and top-secret laboratories. When I asked my son what kind of birthday party he wanted this year, he eagerly exclaimed, A science party! That night, I was taken aback when I Googled science birthday party ideas.
