This past weekend we celebrated Georges first birthday. It has been such a bittersweet moment for us. Time seems to go by so quickly and it truly feels like we were just in the hospital welcoming our new boy. But here we are and we could not be more proud.

Originally, we hadnt planned on doing a party. With everything going on, we figured it would be best to do a drive-by birthday for our parents and siblings to see George. Theyve all been quarantined, but we wanted to lean on the side of caution.

Last week, we got the news that things were officially starting to open up in Texas. And even though we arent going out just yet, we talked with our parents and we all agreed a socially distant party in the backyard could be a fun option for all of us to get to celebrate George.

We kept it pretty simple and sweet. I always pictured a honey bear party for George, but when we opted for a drive-by, I put all of that aside. Then, when we decided to actually get together , I went into full panic mode and ordered everything off to attempt and make this somewhat themed.

It was truly the best day and although it felt a little weird to all be spread out in the yard, it was so nice to be together again.

Pie Topper Ordered from this Etsy shop. I love that cake/pie toppers can be kept and used again or kept as a keepsake. Imagine your 1 year old throwing a party in 30 years for their baby using the same topper *tear*.

Sandwiches and easy to grab food was served including these adorable fruit bear cut-outs using a Bear shaped cookie cutter.

I ordered these Teddy bear from invitations from Honey Bear Pages. Ive loved her shop for a long time and have gotten great personalized gifts, gift tags, etc. I was excited to order invites from there for the first time. They were awesome to work with.

We had the party in the morning and I ordered bagels and breakfast sandwiches. I got peoples orders ahead of time so they were individually wrapped with names. It was so easy and there was no waste. Some of the new party ideas Ive come up with to try and be as safe as possible these days, seem to just be better for parties in general like this! Then we had individual cups of tater tots and lots of Teddy grahams!

The drinks were probably my favorite party addition I knew I wanted to incorporate the bear shaped honey containers. I was thrilled to I ordered them even though I wasnt totally sure what Id do with them. Then I realized I could fill them with bear colored drinks for an easy party beverage! I did apple juice and sweet tea. The kids loved these!

Dessert time! Teddy had an adorable bear smash cake from Cake Artist Cafe. We had actually gotten it to do on his real birthday 2 days prior but he smashed the family cake and dug in when he saw it ha. So we saved this cute bear for the party!

For the guests, we got individually packaged cupcakes and bear rice krispie treats from Kandy Kakes. She made these after I showed her an invite. I love the gingham 1s!

My best friend Ann and I had our first babies 2 months apart. She was already pregnant when I invited her to meet me for dinner after work to tell her the news.

When I told her I was pregnant as well and we would be on maternity leave together she exclaimed:

To get through the anxiety of returning to work, Ann threw herself into Claires first birthday. And she knocked it out of the park.

Almost from birth, Ann has called Claire Claire Bear. So when it came to picking a theme for the birthday a Teddy Bear Picnic was a perfect fit.

    While planning our babys first birthday party, I had a hard time picking a theme. I wanted it to work with the fall landscape, be kind of outdoors-y, but also sweet and applicable to a one year old boy. I texted my cousin, and she suggested the bear theme, and it stuck!     To get started, I searched Pinterest . My mom and I shared this board and both pinned to it. I realized I didnt want to get too far into the lumberjack theme, but I did love the black and white and rustic, woodsy feel.

    How adorable are these?! This etsy seller did such a great job! I bought them, downloaded them, and emailed the attachment to our local UPS store. I typically have printing jobs done at Staples, but doing them with UPS was a much better experience.

    I found black and white buffalo check fabric in the seasonal section at Hobby Lobby. To make the runners, I simply cut the fabric. Having fabric runners is something my mom taught me to do, and it always makes a huge difference for a minimal cost!

    I also found an inexpensive pre-made buffalo check runner on etsy.

    Many of the decorations are Christmas trees that my mom loaned me. We made a little forest on top of the buffalo check runner on our dining room table. We used this area for the kids to sit and eat.
