  • No dyes or preservatives. Store bought treats have an ingredient list a mile long. These are all natural and free of unhealthy additives.
  • Health benefits of rosemary. This herb is reported to aid dogs with digestion and memory. Rosemary is even known to act as a natural flea repellent for many dogs!

  • They look adorable. Dont forget to take a picture of your dog with his donut! That is, if he doesnt gobble it up right away.

Tips For Making Treats For Your Dog At Home

Dogs have sensitive stomachs so its super important to use the right ingredients! Here are a few tips on making your dog treats healthy, delicious, and nutritious! Once you know what ingredients to avoid, youll want to make homemade treats for your dogs all the time!

  • Xylitol/Birch Sugar: Xylitol is a sweetener that is most commonly found in things like gum, peanut butter, baked goods, and ice cream. It can also be listed as birch sugar. Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs and may cause liver failure, so be sure to check ingredient lists before you give anything new to your pup.
  • Avoid Nutmeg: If you want to add a little extra flavor to your dogs birthday cake, cinnamon and ginger are both safe in small amounts. However, avoid nutmeg at all costs. Its toxic to dogs.
  • Avoid Added Sugars: Giving your dog too much sugar can lead to diabetes and digestive issues. Look for plain Greek yogurt and applesauce when making your cake.

How Much Birthday Cake Can My Dog Eat

There are really two questions here. First how much should you feed your dog based on their weight? And second, should you put the entire cake in front of them?

For our 22 pound dog, Fritz, we fed him ¼ of the cake in place of his dinner. Fritz absolutely loves this cake!

For safety, you need to decide if you can put the entire birthday cake in front of your dog. Yes, it makes for super cute pictures but if your dog has ever shown any type of resource guarding or food aggression it is best to serve only what you are comfortable with your dog eating at one time.

Can Dogs Have Donuts

This 4inch, grain free, dog birthday cake is as yummy as it is cute ...

They can when you make them dog safe! This dog donut recipe includes only ingredients that are shown to be safe for dogs. Use dog donuts as a treat for a special occasion or a reward for a job well done.

Typical doughnuts made with white flour and lots of sugar, should not be served to doggies. Save those for yourself!

The ingredients in this recipe are generally recognized as safe for dogs. While I am comfortable feeding these to my dog, I always suggest consulting with your veterinarian for what is safe for YOUR dog.

Faqs & Things To Keep In Mind

What kind of peanut butter? Is crunchy ok?

  • Ideally look for a natural or sugar-free peanut butter. Just make sure that your sugar-free peanut butter doesnt include artificial sweeteners like xylitol. Artificial sweeteners are often potentially deadly to dogs.
  • Crunchy peanut butter will work just the same.

Can I use banana or pumpkin instead of apple?

  • Yes! Instead of apple you can use 1 small banana . Just mash it up and mix it in.
  • Use 1/4 cup mashed/pureed pumpkin in place of apple.

Can you freeze these for later?

  • Yes! Just make sure you cool them completely first. Wrap the cupcakes individually in plastic wrap then foil, then store in a zip-lock bag for up to three months.
  • To thaw: you can let them thaw in the fridge overnight or in the microwave for about 30-40 seconds.

Do I need to peel the apple?

  • Dont worry about peeling.
  • You can grate the apple instead of chopping if you prefer.
  • Make sure to remove all the apple seeds. They contain a small amount of cyanide. Its not likely to cause your dog much harm, but its still better to avoid any potential risk.

Whether or not you choose to make these for your pup make sure to give them some extra pets for me! They deserve it.

Are Cakes Bad For Dogs

Is your dog on the next level of Spoiled? Perfect because a birthday ...

Let me put it this way it depends on what the cake is made with. Chocolate birthday cake for dogs is an absolute NO NO . In case you dont know, chocolate is very toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. Please dont ever give your dog chocolate. Ever.

In addition to chocolate, too much sugar isnt healthy for your fur baby either. Oh, and because of the alcohol, dont use vanilla extract in anything you want your pet to eat, either.

Some Benefits Of A Grain Free Diet For Dogs:

  • Helps keep dogs fuller longer, resulting in them eating less frequently. This is good news because grain-free/high-protein dog food can be more expensive.
  • May help to reduce canine food allergies. By removing grains from your dogs diet, you can narrow down what may be causing their tummy troubles.
  • More energy. Well, depending on your dog, this can be a good thing or a bad thing.
  • Grain-free diets promote healthier skin.
  • A happier tummy, shinier coat, healthier skin, and more energy? Maybe we should eat birthday cake for dogs EVERY day!

    Recipe notes

  • This cake recipe calls for chickpea or oat flour. If you dont want to buy oat flour, you can make your own by grinding gluten free rolled oats in a food processor.
  • Use coconut oil or olive oil. Do NOT use avocado oil! Avocados contain persin, a toxin that can cause serious health problems, and even death, in many animals.
  • Our Vizla loves strawberries, but if you want to use another fruit, first make sure thats its safe for your fur baby. Bananas, blueberries and raspberries would be good substitutes for strawberries.

    Happy Friday everyone

Today is a special day because we are celebrating Berrys 3rd birthday! Well, his belated birthday. We werent in town during his real birthday last month but we still made sure to celebrate as soon as we could. I cant believe we have had him for so long, time really does fly by!

We wanted to make him a mini cake for his birthday, but silly me didnt think about the fact that I dont have mini cake pans so instead, we decided to make him cupcakes and it was a much more appropriately sized for the 8 lb. chiweenie that he is.

These cupcakes are not only made using dog-friendly ingredients, but they are also vegan, gluten-free and oil-free. We made sure to load them up with both fruits and veggies so that they were on the healthier side for Berry. Instead of using wheat flour, we used chickpea and oat flour instead.

Here is a picture of Berry the day we rescued him in Napa, CA. He was SO small and so stinking cute. Look at that face!

Berry absolutely LOVED these cupcakes. We found it easier to cut up the cupcake and put it in a bowl for him and would recommend that for other dogs that are the same size or close in size. Larger dogs could probably gobble these up in one go haha.

    Why This Recipe Works

When you think of making cakes for people we want them to be light and airy. Sweet, full of flavor, and the perfect texture. But your best friend is a little different.

Many dogs have sensitive stomachs and they are 100% motivated based on smell. Our recipe takes this into account. We selected flavors that are appealing to most dogs. And ingredients that shouldn’t upset the most sensitive tummies.

When making a cake for your pup’s birthday we wanted to make it easy. This recipe doesn’t use multiple cake pans to make a layer cake. Fewer dishes mean you can spend more time with your dog on their special day.
