Basket Toss
Who says that playing with a basketball hoop requires using a basketball? Gather up an assortment of household items that could be tossed into a hoop. Examples are sponges, tennis balls, football balls, soccer balls, wadded up paper, a plastic sports bottle, a plastic flower pot, a small pillow or stuffed animal or a water balloon. Use your imagination!
Put each item in a paper lunch bag marked with an appropriate number of points based upon how difficult, generally, it would be to score a basket with the item. Allow each player an opportunity to draw one of the lunch bags out of a larger basket and give each 3 chances to make a basket with the item inside. A little more than a week ago, my little nugget turned one! We celebrated his birthday at home on the day of with a small celebration and a mini smash cake so that we could have a more intimate moment with him and celebrate his first year of life. Then, when the weekend came, we celebrated his birthday with family and close friends with a basketball-themed first birthday party Carters Basketball Bash. As with many moms planning their childs first birthday party, I was super overly excited and super obsessive about how I wanted this party to turn out. And with COVID-19 and tropical storms threatening the happening of his birthday party, we were able to have clear weather and have a socially distanced birthday party celebration.

For this basketball-themed birthday party, we wanted to make sure that everyone felt they could have fun. To be honest, first birthday parties often dont feel too welcoming for adults who dont have. young children themselves. At the party, we made sure there was fun for everyone including a moon bounce where the younger children and the adult children could enjoy themselves as well.
For the snacks and drinks, we DIYed a lot of things including the basketball court taco dip , his dessert table scoreboard, and the orange fizz drink that was the specialty drink for the party.

Basketball Party Planning & Invitations
In addition to basic basketball party supplies, like plates, cups, napkins and decorations, you may want to consider purchasing, borrowing or renting the following items for your child’s Basketball party:
- Basketballs either regular size or smaller
- A basketball hoop
- Basketball jerseys and sweatbands
- Cut the shape of a basketball out of orange construction paper. Draw lines like those on a basketball on the paper with glue and then sprinkle silver glitter on top. Wait for the glue to dry and then write your party details on the back.
- Take a photo of your child wearing their favorite team jersey while holding a basketball. Print out enough 4 x 6 copies of the photo so each guest receives one. Glue white construction paper to the back of the photo and write all the party details on it. The back of the photo can read like a trading card too.
