Birthday Party Decoration Ideas for 12 Year Olds

It has been observed that birthday party celebrations have got different looks for different people belonging to different age groups. So here in this piece of writing, I am going to share some creative 11 & 12 year old birthday party ideas that would help you to make your younger ones birthday memorable.

It was around spring last year when I visited my sister living in Seattle when I turned out to be fortunate enough to be a part of the beautiful birthday celebration at her neighborhood.

The birthday was that of a kids of age 11 years whose name was David. I truly felt lucky to be a part of that celebration which finally has landed me in writing this piece of the article especially talking about 11 year old birthday party ideas.

Davids birthday party has truly opened my eyes with certain ideas that his parents had used to make the party gay and jovial. Those were some creative ideas that you can also use in celebrating the birthdays of 11 and 12 year old ones.

Some of the events being organised are what I am going to share below.

The All Time Favorite Movie

The kids with no doubt tend to have one or the other movie that they hold special. Well, for David it was the movie Jurassic Park that has a good portrayal of dinosaurs. So the result of this was that the guests were given some funny dinosaur costume to put on as the party attire. It was a little embarrassing but what can be as great as making the birthday kid happy.

Survive A Fear Factor Party

A Fear Factor theme will make for a hilarious party that your teen and their friends will talk about for years! Inspired by the show that dares contestants to fight their fears through various trials, this party will have kids screaming in delight.

Set up a series of challenges and have kids progress through different levels until an overall winner is determined. Allow kids to opt out anytime to keep the challenge fun rather than scary. Trials can include:

  • Egg challenge: Prepare a bowl of hard-boiled eggs and one or two raw eggs and challenge kids to pick one and crack it on their foreheads. You can award points for bravery and choosing the right egg.
  • Worm rescue: Fill individual containers with chocolate pudding or jello and put candy worms at the bottom. Tie kids’ hands behind their backs and time them to retrieve as many worms as possible in one minute. The person with the highest number of rescued worms is the winner!
  • Guess what’s inside: Put a variety of objects into boxes with a hole cut in the side, then have kids put their hands in and try to guess what is inside. Choose things that feel horrible to touch, like cold spaghetti, hair, wet cotton balls, slime, egg whites, kiwi fruit, or mashed banana.

Location: Home

Ideal age: 13 and up

Things to remember: Check for any allergies ahead of time and keep a watchful eye to ensure all the kids are happy to play.

Estimated cost: $50 to $100 depending on the ingredients and decorations chosen

Number of guests: 68

At 13, your child may feel like they are too old for birthday parties, and may want to celebrate their birthday in a more grown up way.

Remember, no matter how much YOU want the parties to continue, this is their special day and they wont thank you for embarrassing them even if it is with good intentions!

So when youre planning celebrations for your childs 13th birthday, keep them in the loop, and let their ideas be your guide.

Some kids may still want to have a party, but with a definite teenage theme. Others will want to go somewhere special, or just have a few friends around for a specific activity.

You might find they only want to invite a few close friends around. Sometimes a 13th birthday party is just a small group of close friends staying overnight and watching movies.

They may not want a party at all, and just ask for an evening spent with close family. This might be a nice meal with extended family, or even a fine dining experience with close family.

Game Trucks For Birthday Parties

One of the newest crazes for birthday parties is to hire a game truck to come to your house. These trucks are filled with several screens and Xbox games for the kids to play.

This is a great idea for a kid that loves to play online games. With the high price of many birthday party locations, hosting this at your house might be pretty similar in cost.

We have gone to a couple of these parties and they have been a huge hit with older elementary school-age kids.

Let The Bubbles Be The Decor

If you think that simply blowing bubbles may not excite the modern tech savvy kids then you can at least use the bubbles as the core decor of the party and decorate it with different decorating stuff to give the bubbles a new recognition. As I write it, it is making me nostalgic with memories of my childhood when the autumn was never spent without blowing some bubbles in our warm lawns.

What Can Tweens Do For A Birthday Party

Here I have selected my 3 personal favorites when it comes to organizing a 12-year-old birthday party

  • Blacklight Highlighter party

This one is one of my personal favorites because it is very easy and inexpensive to organize. The only thing you need your guests to do is to ask them to show up wearing a white T-shirt and pants which they are not afraid to ruin. While kids are dancing and having fun, their friends can draw stuff on each others T-shirts, so at the end of the party, each kid will leave with the unique party souvenir.

Party tips:

  • Rent the right amount of blacklights: 6ft blacklight for every 25ft of wall length in a room.
  • Get plenty of highlighters
  • Bring cleaning supplies to get rid of the stains left after the party
  • Get some fun upbeat music
  • Remember, highlighters work great on hair too
    • Harry Potter party

I grew up watching Harry Potter, and it was one of my childhood dreams to get that precious letter from Hogwarts itself. Today modern kids all over the world enjoy watching it too, which makes this party theme unique and special. By organizing it, you will help your kids to feel like real magicians, that is so much fun!

    Party tips:

  • Send out invitations by mail imitating a true Hogwarts invitation
  • Greet guests with a sorting hat, dividing your group into 4 groups: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Hufflepuff. Simply put candies of 4 colors into the hat, and let each kid take one. Whichever color they pick will be the color of their house.

Kids birthday parties do not need to be expensive! In fact- most of the home parties we’ve thrown over the years have cost less than $100. Here are some tips to streamline the cost:

    • Run the games, activities, and crafts yourself vs. hiring out the entertainment
    • Plan your party in the afternoon and offer snacks and birthday cake vs. a meal
    • Have the party craft also serve as the party favor
    • Don’t spend money on pricey themed paper goods and decorations! Buy solid-colored paper goods that are cheaper, and allow you to use leftover pieces at future parties! Decorate with inexpensive balloons or steamers
